Where Does God Belong?

Where does God belong? Does He only belong in church or the hospital waiting room when we are pleading with Him to save the life of someone we love? Is He just supposed to be available when we have a list of requests only He can fill?

I don’t know about you, but I’m rather tired of being told where God does or does not belong. And, I don’t want to be the kind of Christ follower who only calls on Him when I’m in need.

Many years ago, while working in an office, I started a lunch time bible study with a few co-workers. We were all independent insurance agents, working in the same agency, so our time was our own. What started out as about five of us became most of the office; about twelve in all...

A Bitter Sweet Celebration ~ He Is Risen!

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.” Then they remembered his words.

Happy New…

Happy New…

There’s something invigorating about new. Whether it’s a new job, relationship, car, home, clothes or even a new restaurant in town, there’s just something about new. Even if it’s not actually new, yet new to us, it’s refreshing to have or do something new.

Isn’t it interesting how we get so caught up in the anticipation of the New Year? For some odd reason, we think this New Year can somehow alter the trajectory of our lives. Celebrating the New Year is the biggest “do over” ever! How often do we hear, “I’m so glad this year is over, the New Year will be so much better!”? A fresh start becomes the goal. A new diet or exercise regimen begins on January 1st. What we didn’t accomplish last year, we WILL accomplish in this New Year!

I wonder though, if we...

Thanksgiving… Are You In or Out?

Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays. It’s a day of celebrating how thankful I am for those I love and the love so freely given back.

Most of us are thankful for many things on a daily basis, but this one, very special day, we have an opportunity as a nation to all give thanks in unison. Just think, on this one day, millions of people gather together to intentionally show gratitude for blessings and love.

I realize, for many, this is a day of simply gorging on turkey with all the trimmings and watching football. I like that part too! Go Broncos! But what about the thankful part of Thanksgiving?

When I was a child, I did not know to thank God for my blessings. I hadn’t been taught it was God the pilgrims were thanking for the feast before them...

Lessons From War Room

Seeing this movie once was not enough. I had to see it a second time, and would gladly pay for another ticket at the theater again. Purchasing the DVD when it comes out is a must!

Yes, it is that good!

There are many movies I’ve enjoyed and watched repeatedly over the years. Sleepless In Seattle comes to mind as does The Rose, You’ve Got Mail, A Star Is Born and many others. Each of these movies I’ve seen many times for the entertainment value and overall theme.

War Room, however, has had a different impact on me. It’s a movie with a message. A message of the power of prayer and the power of love. And, I believe, a message directly from God.

Both times I saw War Room it was all I could do to keep from weeping during several scenes...
