Sharing the Good News

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.  Mark 16:15 (NIV 1984)

A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled on an incredible business opportunity. A week later, I found out a good friend had started working with this same business a couple of months prior. Imagine my surprise? My first thought was gladness. Yay, my friend found this great opportunity too! Maybe we can work together. But later, it occurred to me, that my friend had not shared this good news with me. It wasn’t my friend who told me about this amazing opportunity, but a total stranger.

Gladness turned into sadness. Was I not worthy of my friend sharing this good news?

Then it hit me. Is this how I treat the good news of Jesus? If so, why?

Does everyone I know, know of my faith in our Cr...

A Tribute To Teachers

Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

Teachers come in all shapes and sizes; tall, short, large, small, young, old, male, and female. They vary in ethnicity as well as religious preference. Some teach in elementary, middle or high school, while others are called Professors in College. Then there are those who somehow manage to blend both family and classroom by teaching their children at home. To all of you, we pay tribute.

Today is the first day of school in our area. Many awoke early in anticipation of beginning a new year of educating our children to the best of their ability. They also find themselves faced with the challenges that come with such a huge responsibility.

Some Teachers will have a few students who are...

The Master Gardener

Greetings,

I am stepping away from my usual devotional style of writing today. I’ve been so busy with many other aspects of life the last month or so that I haven’t had much time for writing. Today I’d just like to take a moment to send some thoughts your way. This is unedited, so please forgive any mistakes. I hope and pray this will bless and encourage you.

Many years ago I was privileged to attend a Christian business women’s luncheon where I found myself both mesmerized and tearful while listening to the guest speaker. She was speaking about how God prunes us so we will bear more beautiful fruit in the future.

I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. John 15:5 NASB

It was the first time I’...

Tragedy in Aurora

Whether we know someone in Aurora Colorado or not, today is a sad day for each of us. It’s one more senseless tragedy that ripples sadness and feelings of loss across the miles; one that touches each of us in very unique ways.

And so, we pray.

Heavenly Father,

The evil in this world is too much to handle some days, and this is one of them. Only You and the power of Your Holy Spirit can heal the hurting during times like this. We come before You to ask for peace and comfort for those whose lives are forever changed by this senseless act of violence.

We pray for the victims still living whose lives will forevermore be changed. Heal and comfort them please dear Lord.

We pray for the family and friends of those who have died...

My God is Bigger Than…

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 3:5-6 NASB

When I was a kid, it was often taunted during playground quarrels, “Oh yeah, well my_____ is better than your_____.” Or “my dad can beat up your dad.” And “my mom is prettier than your mom.” I’m sure those same things are being said on playgrounds everywhere today, too. It makes me smile to think of the innocence in those childish statements, yet brings me to a place of adult wonder.

I never was very confident in stating that my anything or anyone was bigger or better than anyone else’s, but I would say it just the same...
