You Matter

Thus says the LORD, Heaven is My throne and the earth is My footstool. Where then is a house you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may rest?  “For My hand made all these things, Thus all these things came into being,” declares the LORD. “But to this one I will look, To him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.” Isaiah 66:1-2

You matter! Do you know that? Do you know you matter to the Creator of the Universe, the One who breathed life into each and every one of us?

Some reading this will say an adamant, “YES, I know I matter to God,” while others may pause to consider how to respond. Whether you answer yes today or no tomorrow, this message is for you. YOU matter to God!

In Louie Giglio’s teaching on Creation, he shows in such magnificence how vast the universe is. He shows how minuscule the earth is in comparison to the rest of the planets surrounding us. Seeing how small the earth actually is leads us to realize just how teeny tiny we are.

It’s intriguing to me how there always seem to be two differing thoughts in any given group of people. There are those who see our tiny selves as so very special to God that He chose to create us, while others feel very insignificant and unimportant.

I fall into the first camp. I am in total awe that the Creator of the universe, Who not only spoke into being the sun, moon, and stars, also chose to create me! Why did He create us? Was He lonely? Did He need little toys to play with? Some may think so, but I know with my every breath that God chose to create you and me because of love.

Simply put, God is like a very wealthy man. The wealthy man, who has spent his whole life building an empire, can choose to share his wealth with great love and generosity, bringing joy to himself by bringing joy to others. Or he can keep it all to himself, admiring the massive fortune he has acquired while living a life of loneliness.

God, to me, is like the first example. He created an incredible world, a world full of such great beauty, and chose to share this amazing beauty with us, His ultimate creation.

After all, what good is something wonderful if we don’t share it with others?

If you are one of the doubters of God’s love due to overwhelming negative circumstances, or one who simply lacks faith in a loving God, I urge you to let Him know your heart. Tell Him how you feel. Tell Him if you are feeling alone and forgotten. Tell Him if you are disappointed in Him. Regardless of how you are feeling, tell Him!

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.                    1 Peter 5:6-7 NASB

He’s a big boy. He can handle our questions, hurt, and anger much more resiliently than we give Him credit for. After all, He sees our struggles. He knows our pain. He feels our discouragement and wants nothing more than to lift us up into His loving arms, hold us close and make it all better.

And oh yes, tell Him of your joys, too. Even in the midst of struggle, there are always moments of joy. A hug from someone who loves you – a magnificent sunset – the chill and beauty of an early autumn day – a baby’s giggle – the aroma of a freshly baked apple pie – laughter or a simple smile from someone who knows your heart.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 NASB

One of the things I love most about my Heavenly Father is knowing He has a plan and purpose for my life. He even has multiple plans and purposes! Yay!

Sometimes those plans include plodding through difficulty or sorrow. Not that I believe God plans difficulty and sorrow; but because we live in a fallen world, we do have rough times. The good news is that God uses those rough times as tools to help us grow into a more vivid image of Him. The rough times create newness in our hearts to enjoy the good times more appreciatively.

Just as we love and want what’s best for our family and friends, God, too, loves and wants what’s best for us. The difference, however, is huge. We don’t always know what’s best for those we love and may inadvertently lead them down a wrong road. Awe, but God knows which road will lead to the ultimate fulfillment and success. Why? Because we matter to Him! YOU matter to Him!

So, what about you? Do you know how special you are to the One who created you? Or, are you struggling to understand how you could possibly matter to a Creator you cannot see?

Heavenly Father, Creator of all things good, we thank You for loving us so much that You allow us to fail in order to learn how to succeed. We rejoice in knowing the One who named each and every star, knows our name, and loves us beyond compare. Thank You, dear Father, for all You do. In the matchless name of our Lord, Savior, and Friend, amen.
