With Elections Nearly Over, What Then?

election

We’re nearing the end of one of the most heated election cycles the United States has ever experienced. What saddens me most is knowing many relationships are now fractured because of it. We have the privilege and right to vote in this country, yet we stomp on it with hateful objection when someone has the audacity to have an opinion different than our own.

I’ve had political discussions with other Christ followers whom I do not totally agree with. One such conversation turned a bit harsh on both our parts, but we quickly shared grace with one another and chose to humbly disagree.

Healthy debate is good, especially when it’s followed by respect for the other view. We never stop learning! My husband, for instance, has taught me more about politics than anyone else in my lifetime. And I, in turn, have taught him a few things too. 🙂 We don’t always agree, but we do show respect if we have a difference of opinion. Healthy debate, healthy learning.

If you have any fractured relationships due to a difference of opinion over the elections, will you please humble yourself and do your part to heal those relationships?

So long as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Romans 12:18

How do you handle differences of opinion? Let’s help one another find grace during this very ungraceful time in our country.

Father God,

Thank You for the privilege of living in the United States of America and for the freedoms it affords me. Please help us all to remember, elected officials will come and go, but at the end of the day, Jesus is still King!

In His embrace,

Toni

Great points Toni. A big part of growing as a Christian is learning how to present your view in a respectful way while acknowledging other people’s point of view. We are all different but we are all God’s creation and every person should be treated with dignity. You get more bees with honey than vinegar!

Amen Susie! Love God, love people. Simple yet difficult for so many.

      God bless you my friend!

We know God can use people who seem not so great to turn into and do amazing things. So that is what we get to pray for!

    • Toni  says:

Amen to that Cassie! He uses all of our faults and failures if we let Him! We have a great list of biblical relatives who attest to that!

      God bless you!

Very true. We need to humble ourselves to God and learn to respectfully communicate even when we disagree.

    • Toni  says:

Thank you Kristi! Indeed we do! If we humble ourselves before God and to those we love, agreeing to disagree is so much easier.

      God bless you!

Thank you for sharing this important piece for all of us. I believe we are all very torn on the future of our Great Country. But God hands us exactly what we are to have and He is the final Victor, no matter the outcome of this historic election. Peace.

    • Toni  says:

Thank you Marjorie! Knowing God holds us in the palm of His hand brings peace each and every day. Regardless of the outcome of the elections, we all need to do our part to bring others back to God.

      God bless you Marjorie!
