The Sweetness of a Hug

After just a few short hours of meeting, talking with and enjoying a meal together, our young dinner companion ended our time with a warm, sweet hug. Those who know me well fully understand the joy that little hug embedded in my heart

       • There’s just something about a hug…

One of my dearest friends of over 20 years is a self-proclaimed non-hugger. When our friendship began to blossom she would allow me to hug her once in a while. Since hugging for me is as natural as breathing, especially with someone I care deeply about, the sporadic hugs were, and still are, sweet to this girls soul.

       • Hugs, to me, are like affirmations of worth and value. If I care enough to hug you, it truly means I value your presence and time.

I recently met a woman whose life has been turned upside down. For reason’s only known by God, the first time we met, she felt compelled to tell me of her struggles. I was honored, to say the least, that God would allow me to be a sounding board for her hurting heart. We ended our first meeting together with a prayer and a huge hug. Now, whenever I pop in to her shop for a quick hello and heart check, a huge hug is part of the visit. Yay!

       • A hug can mean; hello it’s so good to see you…goodbye, I’ll miss you…I’m sorry you’re hurting… or even, it’s so nice to meet you.

I have a few very close friends whom also share an affinity for the embrace. The conversation does not begin or end without a hug full of love and gratitude for our time together.

       •  Love, love, love my hugging girlfriends!

My son is one of the best huggers you’ll ever have the pleasure of meeting. When he hugs you, you know you’ve been hugged! He’ll hug the stuffing right out of you! I wonder where he gets that from. ☺

       • The embrace is a gift from God.

The most incredible hugs of all time come from my best friend and husband. There’s something very special about a man who knows how to embrace you in just the right way, for every occasion imaginable. Sad? Yep. Happy? Yep. Afraid? Yep. In the mood? Oh yes! His hugs confirm how much God loves me.

If you are a hugger, I know you celebrate this free and precious gift with me. If you are a hug avoider, I suggest you let yourself go a little and see what the rest of us are so impressed with. Give it a try! It’s sure to bless your soul.

       • Did you know January 21st is national hugging day? Ha! How cool is that?!

Until next time, may the Lord of all creation bless you with much love and joy.

In His embrace,

Toni

Thank you, Lord, for hugs ~ and huggers! And especially for Toni’s reminders that hugs are an extension of your love for us. I like to add Paul’s admonition to “greet each other with a holy kiss.”

Christian ((( )))s and XXXs dear friends!

Thank you so much Gladys for your reminder of one of my favorite scriptures. Yes, we are to greet each other with a holy kiss! One of my favorite Pastor’s said while in College, he and a few other young men, decided to print that verse on t-shirts. He said it didn’t get them as many kisses from the young ladies as they had hoped, but did get many interesting looks. Ha!

      Blessings to you Gladys,

      Toni
