Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays. It’s a day of celebrating how thankful I am for those I love and the love so freely given back.

Most of us are thankful for many things on a daily basis, but this one, very special day, we have an opportunity as a nation to all give thanks in unison. Just think, on this one day, millions of people gather together to intentionally show gratitude for blessings and love.

I realize, for many, this is a day of simply gorging on turkey with all the trimmings and watching football. I like that part too! Go Broncos! But what about the thankful part of Thanksgiving?

When I was a child, I did not know to thank God for my blessings. I hadn’t been taught it was God the pilgrims were thanking for the feast before them...

Seeing this movie once was not enough. I had to see it a second time, and would gladly pay for another ticket at the theater again. Purchasing the DVD when it comes out is a must!

Yes, it is that good!

There are many movies I’ve enjoyed and watched repeatedly over the years. Sleepless In Seattle comes to mind as does The Rose, You’ve Got Mail, A Star Is Born and many others. Each of these movies I’ve seen many times for the entertainment value and overall theme.

War Room, however, has had a different impact on me. It’s a movie with a message. A message of the power of prayer and the power of love. And, I believe, a message directly from God.

Both times I saw War Room it was all I could do to keep from weeping during several scenes...

I’ve been writing and re-writing this article for a couple of months. I start and stop, then put it away, because I haven’t been sure how to address my thoughts in a clear & kind manner. I find myself frustrated over what I’ve seen and read from some of my fellow Christians concerning the gay rights movement and the Supreme Court ruling over same sex marriage.

For those refusing to create wedding cakes and flower arrangements or serve pizza to homosexual couples; to those speaking, less than Christ like, words of discontent over the same sex marriage ruling, I have some thoughts.

First, my question is simply this. Does turning away gay couples from a business or speaking unkind words about them make God proud of us? Even if we say we’re doing it in defense of Him?

The Difference Maker

About 15 years ago a friend said something I’ve thought of many times. She said, “God doesn’t ask us for for perfection, but, He does ask us for excellence.”

As I’ve pondered excellence over the years and, indeed, striven toward it, I find it more and more lacking in our society.

Not to worry… This will not be a rant on societal dysfunction, but, rather, a telling of the goodness of striving for excellence and becoming a difference maker in our individual corners of the world.

Today, September 11, 2014, as we remember 13 years ago and the impact that terrible day has had on our country and lives, I am reflecting on many things.
