His Request

You will seek Me and find Me
when you search for Me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:13 NASB

Each Wednesday morning prior to leaving for my small group Bible study, I ask the Lord for words of wisdom and encouragement for the ladies who place their trust in me as their leader. I am so very blessed with a group of godly women who want to grow deeper in faith, learn more about connecting to our Lord through prayer, and who also desire to pour out love and understanding on one another.

The big secret here however, is that I may be called the “leader” but I learn just as much from them as they learn from me, if not more. Thank you Jesus!

This morning was one of those “God” moments when you know what you have just spoken had absolutely nothing to do with you. God Himself spoke words that took everyone by surprise. The words that came from my mouth were inspiring and thought provoking, but were not rehearsed, not planned ahead of time, nor even thought of before. We were talking about the need for more time with the Lord and how we all have our excuses for not spending time with Him. We get busy, we will get to it soon, we just need to finish this one last project, one last e-mail, one last whatever…… “Be patient, God, I’ll be with you soon”…… and so goes the day, tired and spent from so much to do and no time with Him. “Tomorrow Lord, I’ll try again tomorrow.”

After listening to how saddened everyone was about not making time for God, the words came out like a flowing stream of love from the One we ignore. As we put God off and wait to have enough time to be with Him, He reminds us that it is not we who are initiating that quality time, but God Himself who is asking in that very moment to spend time with us.

Yes, each time we think of God and remember it’s been a while since spending time with Him, He is whispering in our ear, “Remember Me? I miss you, I love you, and I want to spend some time with you. Please do not keep looking at that computer screen, please shut the vacuum off, please shut the TV off, please tell your friend you’ll call back later, your husband will understand if you tell him you need time with Me. Trust Me, everything else can wait just a little while. I want to hear your voice speaking to Me, I want to visit for a while and teach you something I’ve saved up just for you, I want to show My love in a quiet still moment with you and you alone. Do you have time for Me? Will you make time for Me? Do you love Me enough to stop what you are doing to notice I am right here waiting? Still waiting……. always waiting….. I miss you.”

Do you hear His voice? Can you picture His face as He longs to be with you? Oh what a privilege to know the God of the universe, the Creator of everything, wants to spend time with me! How incredible and oh so humbling. I am not worthy of such love.

Forgive me, Father, for ignoring You. I love You. You deserve so much better from me.

Thank you, precious Father, for initiating conversation with me. You are amazing! Thank you, Father, for the honor of being the vessel You chose to utter those most precious words of wisdom and for speaking them into my heart as well as the hearts of my faithful sisters who also heard You loud and clear. Help us, Lord, to hear and recognize Your still small voice as you request our time. In the precious, matchless name of our Lord and Savior, amen.

Toni, you are the same woman whether sharing a bowl of soup in person or writing a devotional. That is because you know exactly who you are and who you belong to..a child of the King. You are an encouragement to me and others because of that. Thank you for following God’s plan for you that began to tug at your heart a long time ago.
