Doomsday Preparation

Today, September 11, 2014, as we remember 13 years ago and the impact that terrible day has had on our country and lives, I am reflecting on many things.

There are some so very sure we will be attacked again in the near future, if not today. This time, worse than before. A thought that must be pondered and considered.

There is a show on cable television called Doomsday Preppers. These folks are so sure we are going to be living in a time of devastation soon, they are going to very expensive and intensive methods of preparing for what they think is the inevitable.

I was told this morning of a woman working in a nursing home. She is saddened by some of the older residents who have shared with her recently that, even though they have spent their lives saying they believe in God and an eternal home, they, at the end of their days, are not really sure of where they will spend eternity. This saddens me too.

All of these things bring me to a very simple conclusion. We spend too much time preparing for the future on this earth but not nearly enough time preparing for our final destination.

This message is short today. It’s a simple request. Please, please, take a moment today to fully consider where you will spend eternity. If you are not completely sure, please, drop to your knees and meet the Creator of the universe. Ask Jesus, the One who died a sinless death to cover our sins, to become the Lord of your life. Here is a simple prayer to help you get started.

Dear God, I have no idea who You are, or why I am here, but I would like to get to know You. I need to know this life matters somehow and that I matter, too. Jesus, thank You for dying for my sins, please forgive me of my sins and wash me clean from this day forward. I ask You to reside in my heart and help me to live a life that honors Your sacrifice. Please lead me and guide me from this day forward. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Most of my readers are already followers of Christ, but some of you are either still trying to decide if this Jesus guy is for real or not or only partially surrendered to the free gift of salvation.

I’m not saying you need to become a perfect person, nor am I pretending I am one. The free gift of salvation is just that, a free gift. It is given to each and every one of us for the asking. The only thing asked in return is love. Love of God, our Creator. Love of His Son, our Redeemer. And love of one another. That’s it. How you choose to show that love is entirely up to you.

When He was asked by one of the Pharisees, “what is the greatest commandment?” Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

That’s it! Really? Yes!

For more, please read my post Do You Know Him?. I pray is blesses you.

Doomsday or not, we are all in constant preparation for taking our last breath on this earth. Where will you be after you take yours?

In His embrace,

Toni

So good to hear your reassuring words. It has been a long time since we have chatted, however I think of you often.

I have taken up contemplative prayer. It is so powerful for me and I do it once a day and aim for twice a day. Not a long time to communicate with God. Which reminds me, I must find my “prayer chair” and start my prayer.

    Peace,

    Billie

      Hi Mary,

So sorry for not responding sooner. Busy weekend!

Sam and I are soul sisters, both adopted by our Heavenly Father through our faith in Jesus Christ. We’ve known each other for probably 15 years or so. She’s one of many I miss being in constant contact with, but so thankful we keep in touch through the miles.

I’m so glad you enjoyed my latest post. Thank you for taking the time to read and respond. It does my heart good. 🙂

No, I am not published just yet. One day, I hope.

      Congratulation on your publishing accomplishments!

      God bless you Mary!

      In Him,
      Toni
