A New Year Prayer

“And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”     Matthew 21:22 NASB

Come January 1st, many will have a New Year resolution or two. We usually make New Year resolutions for things we need or want to fix in our lives. The most popular resolutions are weight loss, debt reduction, better organization, new job, quit smoking, and spend more time with loved ones.

All of the above are worthy goals. If you have resolved to conquer any of them, I pray along with you for success!

Rather than resolve to make changes in our lives by our own power and might, I’d like to encourage each of us to make New Year resolutions a matter of prayer.

I’ve written and shared with you my personal New Year prayer below...

Single at Christmas

For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 NASB

Though I am very happily married now, for most of my adult life I checked the box single when asked about marital status on various forms. When my son was four years old, he and I began a new life alone together which lasted until he left for College. Though being a single mother had its challenges, I can honestly say those years are filled with some of the most precious memories that will forever be tucked away in my heart.

Although I enjoyed my single status most of the time, it was during various holiday’s when loneliness would set in...

Chenoa Marie

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30

Today’s post is in memory of Chenoa Marie Lucero and in honor of her mother, father, sister, son, and many more who loved her more than she could comprehend. All of whom miss her very much.

Today is the first anniversary of Chenoa leaving this earth for her heavenly home. Like many, Chenoa found herself with an addiction which ultimately ended her life just a few days short of her 32nd birthday.

Chenoa was one of those people you meet and just know there is something special about them. She was bright, beautiful, and full of hope and promise...

Christmas Pressure

For today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11 NASB

Ugh! It’s that time of year again… Oh no, I’m not ready for Christmas… I can’t believe it’s Christmas already… I’m still paying off credit cards from last Christmas… I just can’t seem to get into the Christmas spirit… I’m broke; I can’t afford to do Christmas this year. I’ve heard all of these comments and more over the last couple of weeks. I’m sure you have, too.

Unfortunately, celebrating the birth of our Savior for some has become nothing more than drudgery and something to get through. How many times have you heard someone say at the end of December, “I’m so glad Christmas is over”? So sad, yet a reality for many.

I suppose we may feel relieved...

Foggy Thoughts

And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 NASB

The fog was so thick I could barely see the car ahead of me. I enjoy the mystery of fog as long as I am not driving in it. When I am unsure as to my next stop or turn, I get a little anxious and concerned. We are taught as young drivers to keep our eyes on the red lights of the car in front of us, but if the fog is too thick, pull over and wait for the fog to lift. Good advice. Wait.

Now and then I find myself in a fog of sorts when my mind becomes clouded with the negative thoughts and images that plague each of us at one time or another...
